In October Andy and I took on a challenge: spend three days in Washington D.C., round trip from North Conway, NH, for under $1000.  It was a success, thanks largely to the free Smithsonian and his tiny appetite.  It was a wonderful experience.  He saw the nation’s most important exhibits, documents and even witnessed the presidential motorcade dash out of the White House gates just in front of us.  I grew up in the shadow of D.C. and it was idyllic to share the wonder of D.C. with my eldest son.
