Lori and I visited Big Sky, Montana last week. Despite the fact that the mercury was in the -25F range at times, the snow was wonderful. Three days at the opulent Lone Mountain Ranch allowed us to enjoy miles of perfect cross country touring. Sprinkle in a little backcountry touring in the Gallatin National Forest, meal after meal of tender elk and bison and even a spectacular winter tour of Yellowstone National Park and this was one of my favorite ski trips.
After our stay at the ranch we headed to Big Sky Resort for three days of alpine skiing in the steep and deep. Big Sky holds some of the greatest vertical in the country. Forty to fifty degree slopes and a bounty of trails for all abilities make this a must-visit destination for any skier. But if you want the extreme stuff, Big Sky has it. And much more.
